Green Drinks, Green Food, Greenpeace – upcoming events in February

We kicked off 2016 with 3 great events relating to sustainability and community action – the second Researchers’ Café on Climate Conversations, an evening focusing on using film and web for community action, and the first Southampton Green Drinks of the year. Inspiring speakers and interesting discussions! And there is so much happening in the city in February and March. Take a look below for information on upcoming events and be a part of the conversation …

The Green Party are carrying out a survey as part of their access to the waterfront campaign, Sat 30th Jan, 11am-12noon at St Denys Community Centre, Priory Road, SO17 2JZ

CURB & Dear Catastrophe Radio – live music & CURB pop-up cafe on Weds 3rd Feb, 7pm at The Shooting Star, 40-42 Bevois Valley Road, SO14

Southampton Repair Cafe on Sat 6th Feb, 10.30am-1.00pm at Fremantle United Reformed Church Hall, 257 Shirley Rd.

Southampton Scrapstore collects and holds a wide variety of waste materials, donated by local businesses, which are then re-used in the community for arts and craft projects and events. Open on Sat 6th & 20th Feb, Sat 5th & 19th March. Workshop: Sat 6th Feb [update: this workshop has been postponed] – Get ideas for craft projects and learn about up-cycling different materials. Relaunch of Southampton Greenpeace Group on Sat 20th Feb, 11.30am-4pm at The Art House, 178 Above Bar St, SO14 7DW. This includes a screening of the 2015 Greenpeace film ‘How to change the world‘. For more info: sebastian.seeney@greenpeace.org

Stop Trident march and rally: Southampton CND & Southampton People’s Assembly have organised a coach to the CND demonstration in London. Sat 27th Feb, 8.30am – Southampton City Centre, by the Cenotaph Monument.

And coming up in March there is the SanEco student conference (Sat 5th); Southampton Repair Cafe (Sat 5th); My Journey ‘Best Way to Work’ conference (Weds 9th);  CURB at Itchen Valley Country Park (Sat 12th); Dangerous Ideas possible Food Justice event (Weds 16th); and of course WWF’s Earth Hour on (Sat 19th).

If you are looking further afield, there are events organised by Winchester Action on Climate Change, the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife TrustTransition Town Romsey, New Forest Transition and Waterside and Hythe. In addition, Hedge End Town Council are looking for conservation volunteers.

And for those of you who are still wavering, we do know it’s not easy being green…
