February was another busy month for eco events across the city, with the University Sustainability Festival, Southampton Seed Swap and Buy Social Buy Local Day all providing great opportunities to talk about sustainability within our city. Details on upcoming events in March and beyond can be found below – we have lots of food-related activities to get our teeth into: volunteering at a community farm, seed and garden tool swaps, lunch from ‘junk food’ & an event on food justice. And how about following that with dinner by candlelight for Earth Hour? There is also another great student-run sustainability conference, one on sustainable travel and news of a local EcoGroup. A great start to Spring in Southampton!

New Southampton EcoGroup (Swaythling) – Would you like to learn more about reducing your carbon footprint? The Cool Communities programme aims to help neighbours, community groups and families to work together to reduce their energy consumption. EcoGroups meet 4-5 times, at fortnightly intervals, to examine aspects of their individual lifestyles, households and communities, and share ideas on how to cut their energy use and bills. The Cool Communities programme has been trialled in Winchester and Southampton with highly positive results. Interested in getting involved?
