In May, Climate Conversations published news of the University of Southampton’s divestment from fossil fuels. Congratulations to the Invest Positive team for all its hard work. Our article was also picked up by The Guardian and The Independent, but you read it here first!
Professor Ian Williams has stated that annual deaths from air pollution in the city could hit 200 – almost double official estimates. You can also read his explanation on how he reached this new figure and join in the conversation about air quality in Southampton.

Other projects and news
There is a petition to get Southampton Council Planning Department to consult with sustainable transport organisations when considering new developments.
An MSc student at the University of Southampton is doing a Research project into textile waste, what motivates people into buying clothes and the pathways they use when they dispose of them. There is a questionnaire on the subject here.
And finally, Southampton City Council is running a competition to encourage children to think about air pollution. Create a song or a rap about air quality and win great prizes!!
